Default FYI - 2013 tail lights are NOT Plug in and Play

This is just for anyone interested in swapping out your 2010-2012 tail lights for 2013 tail lights. The 2013 tail light pig tail is NOT the same as the pre 2013's. I purchased a set of '13s for my '11 after reading several places that yes they fit, yes there is a gap, and yes they are plug and play. That last information if false. Here is where I was told they plug in no problem.

Here is the OEM '11 tail light pig tails

Here is the '13 pig tail with '11 wiring harness

Here is the '11 and '13 pig tails side by side. As you can see they are not even close to each other.

Sorry I am alittle pissed off right now. I paid about $450 for the tail lights and they dont work...

I'm sure others will have some good suggestions, but I would get a test light, see what wires do what with your existing lights, then start splicing.

Not impossible to make it work, but unless somebody makes an adapter, it's just gonna take time.

Good luck!

That sucks but there's gotta be a way to splice or re-wire those to make them fit. Are the tail lights the exact same size (not the plugs but the units themselves)?

Yes. The taillights fit perfect (but there is a small gap on the bottom where Ford changed the two bumpers) and I really dont want to have to cut and splice any wires as I wanted it as OEM as possible. Just frustrating all these sites saying it is plug in and play when obviously its not and they have the wrong info.

Because most are dumb and haven't actually tested to see if it is really plug and play. They just assume they are and then tell people that.

they plugged right up to my '10 without issue. $450 for a set is cheap. you just need to do some splicing, i guess. Wonder if you got some weird canadian or euro spec taillights.

Need to change tail end of harnesses too. They are P&P tho, from my understanding.

This. They, like me read it somewhere and just pass it along.

Can you please take a few pics of yours? I dont know how you got them to plug into each other without splicing wires (which again I dont want to do). I will give you some internet cookies. And I doubt I have Canadian, or European tail lights as they came from different people.

Again, please take some pictures so I can figure this out. Internet cookies for you too.

If I need to change the end of the harness then they are not P&P, as per my definition of P&P.

I am open for suggestions on what to do. If it comes to having to splice wires then I guess Ill just have to. OEM ones have 6 wires, '13s have 5 but IIRC they all the same colors plus one so I guess it wouldnt be to hard.
