Default Visualizing Replacement Grille

Hi folks,

So I like the chrome trim look around the grille of my black V6:

But I really don't like the look of the honeycomb grille itself when the light hits it just wrong (like so):

So the first thing I want to replace is the grille. I'd like a black billet grille and to keep the chrome trim look around the grille. But as to the emblem I'm not sure. Original pony in the center or tri-bar emblem off center. Whichever I choose I'd like it attached to the outside of the grille as opposed to inlaid. Does anyone have a pic of a black billet grille with chrome border and the pony emblem in the middle? I can't seem to find one. Thanks!

here's my 14' v6 with the upper and lower Billet Grill

I also wanted to add the pony emblem so I bought one off of eBay and painted it matte black to match the scheme... It's a side shot to kind of get the idea. It's all I have because it's in storage right now but I think it cleans up the appearance and gives it a sinister look

Thanks yourmom6990! That does look sinister. I probably won't paint the pony emblem if I go that route, though. My plan is to go all black but with a little bit of chrome trim here and there. Chrome grille border, chrome emblem, black wheels but with chrome along the rim, and maybe a chrome "3.7" emblem on the sides. How did you attach the pony badge to the billet grille?

Thanks. That'll look real good with the black contrast.

The pony actually had a threaded stud welded to the back of it and it attached with a 10mm nut and a backing plate. So you put the pony through, attach the backing plate and then thread the nut on top of it so when you tighten down the nut it clamps onto the grill. Another reason why I painted black because I was able to see the chrome hardware behind the grill and it wasn't very appealing.

Here, I actually did a write up on installing the grill you want:

https://mustangforums.com/forum/2010...uide-tips.html

Installation is pretty straight forward. You definitely have to be mechanically inclined if you're going to install yourself.

Cool thanks. I'm mechanically amateurish at the moment. Fortunately I have a couple of mechanically inclined friends willing to help me out on this. Am I correct in assuming I could paint the chrome assembly bits of the pony emblem matte black? If that's not possible or if it still looks bad then that sort of decides the emblem issue for me. It'll be the tri-bar emblem off-center.

Yeah you can paint them black and they'll blend right in. The tri-bar looks pretty cool, but every other mustang owner has it and I wanted to stand out. That Billet grille flows 100x better than the stock honeycomb. You'll love it

While I certainly notice a lot of the owners on this forum have the tri-bar emblem, not a whole lot of Mustang owners where I live and where I work went that route so I figure I'm good either way. I'll just pick whichever one looks best to me. Another thing I'm considering (if possible) is put the tri-bar emblem on the outside of the billet grille and then painting the pony black and using it for this mod: https://mustangforums.com/forum/2005...rille-mod.html , put it behind the billet grille and tie it in to the headlight switch. So during the day just the tri-bar emblem is visible. At night just the glowing pony in the center is visible. I have no idea if I can make that work or not. I'll have to run it by a more electrically-minded friend.

That's the first time I've seen that. Looks awesome! I'm sure you'd be able to do it. Seems like a lot of work for a subtle change but it definitely would be worth it.

Is this the grille you got from AM?

http://www.americanmuscle.com/black-...le-1314v6.html

How does it compare to the California Special grille from Ford?

(I know the CS grille is cheaper from Ford than from LMR but the picture of the grille is better on the LMR site)
