nineinchnail, my uncle works for ford at the cleveland casting plant. he builds the 4.6 blocks and the 5.4s, he told me a few weeks ago that as of november ford would not be producing the 4.6 or the 5.4 and that there r 2 new blocks coming in to replace them. then didnt tell him wut they were but he said its safe to say anything with either block is getting a new engine

yeah.. there has been enough confirmation from little bits here and there that it is absolutely switching to a 5.0 for the 2011 model and multiple ford execs have said 400hp. and people are expecting the engine to weigh slightly less than the current 4.6L. (I'm guessing because of that new sleeving technology they developed.. you don't need sleeves anymore on an alluminum block, saves like 6lbs per cyl)
I was under the impression that ford had "learned a lesson" when they offered too many model options in the past, that it confused consumers and cost more money to make than sticking with the 3 models. little, big, bigger.. I expect it to stay that way for some time, if not they are repeating their past mistake.
incase you aren't aware im referring to the 80s when they had I4, v6, v8, a t/c I4.. the turbo'd car was a lot more expensive than the v8. they also had a ton of different trims..

I can't say I'll be laughing because I'd really like to see a 400hp 5.0, but so far I've only heard conjecture and no real confirmation. This sort of frenzy erupts in the mustang community every once in a while and always leaves people disappointed. It was only a few months ago that everyone was sure the 2010 would be a 400hp 5.0 liter and the naysayers were laughed out of the forums, but the fact remains that the 2010 is a 315hp 4.6 liter. I can see the 5.0 making its way into the GT soon, but I think that 400hp is a bit too optimistic at this point.

I'm looking forward to it.
