The v6 is presently tuned to run on the worst gas you can buy in the country. A good 91-93 octane tune should really help.
My auto v6, like my `07 won`t put down full power upon slamming down the throttle, still has a built in delay.
The shifts seem to take forever.

The delay and slow shifts limit performance severely and need no horsepower increases to make a big increase in hard acceleration.

Changing to a 3 something rear diff. gear from the 2.73 my vert has likewise helps without horsepower gains.

I ran mine at us131 tonight and had a corrected 14.63 @ 96 mph. The 60ft was in excess of 2.3 with no wheelspin and 1500 rpm against the trans.

There is a lot that can be done and not all requires the HP gains we will see when the tunes are available.

.

Actually, the new V6 has two "knock sensors" built into the engine. The ECU constantly adjusts the timing and the cam timing to take full advantage of the octane of the fuel currently in the tank. See:

Yes but the advances that the car automatically makes are small in comparison to the aftermarket tune.

The range of adjustments Ford will allow is going to be conservitive. Diablo has already shown 20 hp and 20 lbs torque gains in at rear wheels on the V6 and they weren`t done yet. That is a nice place to be.

What I was getting at though was the tune is only part of the answer to making these 6`ers all they can be.

Smile Future Ford Racing Tune for V6

I'm looking for the Ford Racing Tune for the V6. I am sure that the correct "cam timing changes" are every bit as important as the ignition timing. The question is, who has the knowledge of how to combine the cam tuning with the ignition tuning - on the fly. This was an interesting comment relayed, on another website, from Ford Racing about their Coyote engine tune they just released:

"I called ford racing to enquire about a future tune for the 2011 V6...instead got answers about the GT 5.0 tune since they dont have news for the V6 tune ....they said they made BIG change in the ti-vvct in the low end and got 60hp and 60 tq at 1500-2000 rpm....the guy said the difference is unbeliveable...he said they are the only tuners who tune the ti-vvct and thats how they got the gains.....
The tune also provides 16hp and 7 tq across the board from 2000 to 6900rpm...they dont increase the cutoff or top speed but they do remove the skip shift..."

I hope they make these kinds of gains on the V6!

The 5.0 got 60hp and 60 tq at 1500-2000 rpm. That makes power from the engine more linear. The 3.7 has .259 less horse HP, hopefully we'll get 44hp 44 tq. I am on fence about headers, because the power will come on at top of the RPM range. Now if Ford Racing released a tune for the 3.7, like 5.0 this may makes headers a good upgrade for me. Until I see real numbers I will wait and do a turbo.

latest update from american muscle
Jerry,

We are still doing testing to refine the tunes and it looks like a couple weeks now before they are available. As for Lund, he is another tuner that has been able to get his hands on a V6 very early. If you have any other questions please let us know.
