Default Question about TPMS

I have a base model '11 v6 and wanted to order some rims and tires. Does the base models require the TPMS as well? Or is it just with the premium models. Thanks!

I was told standard in all models of any car built after 2007, there was a actual law that mandated it, but since I have no knowledge of all cars I can say my '11 stang has, and my 2007 Caddy CTS does not, but all Caddy's have now!, but if you want a quick verification cause you can not tell by looking, go by just tires or discount tires they can stick their reset tool next to the stem an will show the frequency if they are in there and transmitting, but as I did I tested what low level was for me to get a warning, so I let the right rear air out until it said 20 lbs. psi, then drove 10 milies and it came on in less than that....

Don't cheap out and skip the TPMS. TPMS possibly saved my car today. It came on, I found the first safe place to pull over, and this is what I found.

yep I believe in them, this chevy cobalt they gave for a rental actually show the amount in each tire and you can add and remove air and it shows exact amount right away, darn why can't we have that good of one, would save me having to check, and I learned a lot having them in that car, cause where I used to put in 40 psi cold, I know now when cold it should be set to no more than 32, cause in 25 degree weatherfor 30 mins. the pressure is coming up 4 to 5 psi, so in summer I can only imagine how much more would come up!

Jsn, is your gt a base or prem? Also where did the tpms alarm come on? Was it a light on the cluster or just a sound?

It is a premium, but your car has it as well. It is a light in the cluster that looks like a flat tire with an exclamation point. It also sounded an alarm ding inside the car.

Side note: My 2007 caddy as I said don't have monitors, which I found strange for a $40,000 car, since don't have them I ordered tire and wheel package from tire rack the other day w/o tpms installed, wheels and tires cost less through them than a set of tires locally, amazing!

Yes your base model has tpms and if you put new wheels on your car the dash will light up with the tpms light in amber can be annoying but you get used to it! But if the place you are buying from a company that seels them buy them for piece o mind!!
