Common Problems – Looking to buy
I’m looking to buy a 2011 – 2014 V6 M6 mustang with the premium package. I’m just wonder what are the common problems people have been having with these cars? I’ve done some reading and so far it sounds like the common problems are:
Water pump leaking
Lower controller arm bushings are faulty
Driveshaft vibration or clunking
I was also looking at the 2010+ Camaro V6 but they seem to have timing chain problems that concern me. Any timing chain problems on the mustangs?
Is there any advantage to the 2013-2014 over the 2011-2012 other than just appearance?

An advantage to the 2013-2014 would be the factory warranty.
I've yet to come across any discussion on timing chain problems on the 2011+
A prevalent engine chirp in colder temperatures on startup.
Clunk when going to reverse.
ECM pulling timing at about 60% throttle.
Select shift not working on automatics... shifter needs to be replaced.
Advance Trac activating while driving in a straight line on a dry road.
A lurch forward when coming to a stop.
Atleast.... It's not a Camaro

Thanks for the replies.
Interesting, Mike can you elaborate on the engine chirp?
I've heard the lurching forward at the stop and the clunk when shifting into reverve is caused by the 2 piece drive shaft and seems to be more of a problem on the automatics. Apparently swapping to a 1 piece shaft will fix that problem.
How do you know the ECM is pulling timing at 60% throttle? I've heard the timing is set a bit aggressive in the computer and it will pull timing when running 87 octane but with high octane this would not be the case or to a lesser degree.
I was looking for a manual transmission so the problems with the automatic wouldn't matter to me. Have not heard about the traction control problem.
Any luck getting Ford to fix any of these problems?
I've been really happy with my Camaro, no problems. I'm keeping it but was looking to get a mustang as a daily driver.

If you're like me, I like to buy "American Made" cars, Camaro is fairly sharp but it's a Import !
I'm really happy with our V-6 Pony Premium !
If' I was you I'd go on Ford search & find a NEW 2014 V-6 Premium with Performance Pkg [Great Value] & find a dealer that would do the Sale for $8K to $9K under MSRP.
Around here the best I seen was the $9K off, other guys may have seen more in their area..
Our Convertible listed a little over $35K & we got it for $32K out the door, [after tax, title, lic & doc fee] which I was just fine with, as it was pretty much the way I was going to order 1 as ....
Good Luck !!!
Leaking diff also? I think the vent tube gets clogged and then blows out your pinion seal. I had mine replaced under warranty. There is some janky TSB about adding a plastic bulb dust cover to the vent tube. Dunno.
I also have all the other common problems you posted. lol Ford.
