Default Replacement Engine - Rubbing Sound After 1 Week

Hey all first post!

Recently replaced my engine with a lower mileage (about 45k) engine, through a mechanic. This is a mechanic I've been using for years so I trust him and his crew. About a week after I had this new engine put in I start experiencing a rubbing sound and some rough idling at times.

Rubbing Sound:
Sort of sounds like rubbing a metal pipe on a metal surface. More higher pitched than anything.

This really only happens at lower speeds (20-50mph). Sometimes the sound relents but if I go over a bump or a rough part of a road it seems to start back up. When I do hear the rubbing sound I can sometimes feel it through my foot on the accelerator. There is no sound when idling or after having driven it for around 30-40 minutes. Again, after that 30-40 minute time frame, if I go over a bump I'll hear a bit of a rub or it'll start back up. I've had the car in Idle and tried reving it to see if I could locate the sound and I heard nothing. It really only seems to be a sound when I am accelerating on the road.

I am taking the car in tomorrow but does anyone have any experience with this?

Did your mechanic do the crank relearn process? Any time that the engine and transmission are separated you have to do the crank relearn so that the computer knows where things are. If it isn't done then you can get some of the issues that you describe.

And if it isn't taken care of it can end up catastrophic.

Ask your mechanic if he did that process, and if he answers as the guy who did my third engine did "uh, yeah, I'm sure that we did that", get it checked or do the crank relearn yourself if you have a tuner.

I am not sure if they went through that process but I will bring it up tomorrow. Thanks for your reply!
