Stock fox with a 351?
Does anyone know if any fox efi model came with an optional 351?
I was wondering because I was thinking about building an engine after my brother and I put up a garage in the yard (finally I'll have a place to make an engine!) and I was thinking about putting a 351 in. My problem is that I live in CA, and the only way I could do this would be to put in an engine that came in my body style out of the factory, with smog equipment.

Exactly, you CAN'T pass CARB emmissions testing with a stroker, or else i would LOVE to.
Hell, it's hard to pass with a blower here in CA. I would like to move, but I have a pretty cushie job for someone without a college degree.
Well, I've gone over the laws on google that I could find for engine swaps in CA and it says that if the engine is newer and was in the same model of car (or weight restriction, hard to tell the difference) you can swap. I just don't know if that's applicable to fox gt and sn95 cobra R.
Maybe a call to the DMV is in order to find out the exact rules.

just do the swap. the smog tech will never know the difference. youd have to put all the factory smog crap on it though.
i live in california. i used to know a guy who lived close buy and had a 12psi vortech on a 347 and passed smog in california. although the sc makes no difference on smog since the test is done below 2500rpms which is before boost hits, the point is he still passed with a 347

Well how the hell do you do that? I almost failed last test (1 year ago) because my timing was up a little high (he never checked timing, only did a quick visual and sniffed it) and I passed by like 2 points in a couple of the catagories. I can't imagine trying to pass with a 351 in there. How much more polution would that put out? And would it work if I bolted up a "cat pipe?" (like 4 hi-flow cats on one h pipe) or would the backpressure just destroy the motor?

ya youd need 4 cats, and a smog pump. just use the cats to pass smog then run a catless h-pipe like i do. i only have cats on my car one day every two years.
my car with all the smog equipment, base timing of 8* and msd everything passes with flying colors. the reason i included the msd stuff is because a weak ignition system will raise HC.
i attached a copy of my last smog test. i didnt use any tricks of any kind to get it to pass. nothing in the gas tank, didnt pay off the smog tech, etc. thats what my car makes when the cats are on.
you can clearly see that the average is WAY lower then the max allowed

Well, I meant should I bolt up 4 cats to my H-pipe and get an offroad to bolt back on when I'm done?
How did you get such good scores? Man, I almost failed, could that be because my timing was turned up?? I have a cobra manifold, and had to turn my timing up a little bit during my last smog test, u think retarding it to around 9 or 10* would make a difference in all of the scores? I'm gonna look for my smog sheet and get back to you to show you how bad my car scored .
I don't get it b/c I have only 82k miles, when I tested I had like 68k.
