RE: 351W MOTOR CAM HELP!!
Hey, sorry for jumping in so late here. Didn't see this post until today but the engine in my car has the exact same combination that you were possibly thinking of building.
My car has the 351W with Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake, 750 double pumper, XE284 Comp cam, 1.6:1 rocker arms, 9.6:1 compression. The cam is advanced 4 degrees, installed at 102 degrees intakecentreline. The car idles with 15" of vacuum so more than enough for the power brakes.
The idle has a slight lump and is very easy to drive. My husband built the engine and kept it tame because it's a "girl's car".
Here's three videos that were taken right after cam break-in. In one of the videos, it appears to be smoking; however, it is condensation from the cold air. It was in early April and about 12 degrees celcius that day brrrrr.....
The engine has tons of torque and pulls really hard to 6300 RPM. I'm more than happy with the set up and the way it sounds and the driveability. I would encourage anyone thinking of doing the same to go for it. You won't be unhappy with it.
