69 351w with D00E heads
hey guys i have a chance to get a 69 351w engine with D00E heads, the 4 bbl head. it has a cam high lift long duration. and a 4bbl cats intake. it has a up down oil pressure what could cause this? and it been rebuilt a couple years ago. it might have flat top piston. and it was build for a race car but neevr raced. the guy wants 1500 CAD. this is complete from pan to intake. i would need to be freshened up. but is it worth it?
I would say go for it, its in the strongest years for the block, only $1500 the replacement from ford which is a weaker block pending no cracks or that ****, their price is right at 27-2800. so i would go for it.
it could beseveral things.
1) the oil pump is about to go south and it will need replacing
2)the pick up is clogged
3)the oil line might have gotten a build up of gunk
4)the gaskets need replacing.
with the up-down oil pressure it sounds like the oil pum itself may be the cause, and that would be the first place to take a look. If it is the oil pump then i would go ahead and replace all the gaskets just on the safe side being that they are dirt cheap.

I would be suspect of the crank bearing clearance and wear, if only two years since rebuild. fresh mains, rod bearings.cam bearings might solve the problem.
Normally the flucuation in oilpressure comesas the engine reaches it's normal operating temperature; more heat less pressure, indicates bearing clearance
due to main bearing wear or crankshaft abnormal wear. As to the DOOE heads, I found out quickly you can get a good set of Aluminum heads that will
outflow the best modified cast iron heads for about the same you would spend on modifications to the DOOE. I ended up with a pair with 190 runners, 64 cc
for $700, ready to bolt on. The 69-70, 351W is king of the 351windsors, looking at the two blocks laying side by side was enough to convince me.Sold the DOOE heads for more than enough to pay for the machine work on the block. Just one man's opinon, sure like my combo 351W. Good luck with your hoss.

Ended up building a 393 stroker, (Poor Man's stroker).Stroked Crankshaft, standard 351 rods, .030" over 5.0 pistons, Aluminum heads, Torquer II Intake, Heddman hedders, long tube.
Have a built AOD so I can run the tall gears and still get a little cruising mileage on the highway. The .675 to 1 overdrive makes a big difference if your gonna drive it much. Now gotta come up with the cash to get it on the dyno and get some numbers, if we can agree on cam numbers.Gotta get the car finished so it will go somewhere beside on The engine stand. I got $150 for my DOOE heads and they were stock. Have seen some tweaked, ported assembled heads go for $ 350. Cost me about $170 for machine work on my block, plus cam bearing installation, magnafluxed, and balancing was extra. It has been at the performance engine shop for almost a year, but it gave me time to round up several more items to sweeten the deal, head stud kit, main bearing stud kit, and a good bit of freebie parts from the Mustang drag racing crowd who hang out there. Felt sorry for the old guy I guess. Good luck with your project spread it out over a year and it won't hurt the hip pocket all at the same time.

oh i plan to spread this out. i want to have th car complete with build motor, all suspension stiffening mods, build tranny, and all body things done to my NEEDS. in 2-4 years. but for now i want to have running car (with built 351)with most of the suspension mods done in a1 or 1.5 years. this isnt something that i am going to work on all the time but its a project car.
I'm very interested in this, im about to start a 351 project also, if at all possible keep updates posted so i can see how you are doing things. GOOD LUCK.
