Default 393 stroker ?'s

briefing:
I have a 351w out of a 95 f250. I plan on boring is .030 over and stroking it to a 393.
From what I gather, I'll be needing new5.0L .030 over pistons and a 3.85 stroke crank.
I plan onreusing my stock 351w rods.. does any one know if they are forged?

questions:
is there any way i can reuse the stock forged pistons frommy 92 5.0withmaybe using thicker rings? if so, wouldit be reliable?

after i strokeiti'll have toreuse the stock 351w heads (for the time being) i know they won't flow no where near as much as the 393 needs but this will be a daily driver and won't see anywhere over 3k rpms until i gather more funds to get a nice h/c/i combo.

any and all advice is greatly appreciated

I will answer your question with another one. Why not go 408, kits are very common and priced well.

if you just asked if you could use .030 rings on a std piston the answer is NO. but, you may be able to just hone the cylinders and reuse the stock pistons and std. sized rings (you can get file fit rings for an even better seal)

You can use your 5.0 pistons, the 351W rods are not forged on the older model 351W, don't know on the 95 model, pin diameter is the same just pin placement makes the 302 compatible with the 3.850 stroke and deck height.I assume they are flat-top with valve reliefs. There are lots of 5.0 modified heads about cheap, just have to drill out the headbolt holes as 351 are larger, no problem for DIY. Can get a
forged 408 kit rotating assembly for $1600.

Do you turn your condoms inside out too?

That's just ghetto. And if you're paying $1600 for a forged 408, you're paying too much.

fullauto I LMFAO on that rubber comment lol

From what I read the 408 isin't as reliable as a 393.. this is going to be a daily driver/weekend warrior.

Can't reuse the pistons aye... no biggie just thought i'd ask.

as for the heads, I'd hate to spend a few bucks here then spend more bucks later getting the heads I want, I'd rather just wait a little while then get the heads that best suits my needs, rather than buying to sets of heads spending extra money and then having the headache of trying to get rid of them later down the road

my last question.. if the 408 is reliable, what would I be looking atcoin wise for a 408 rotating assembly?
also, can i get a 408 on a .030 overbore on a 95 ford 351w block?

For one you can look at FullAuto's Sig. His prices seem to be competitive. I paid $1375 for mine, all forged. Not from FullAuto, I didn't know him back then

There is nothing unreliable about a 408. What makes the 393 attractive, is if you are really budget minded, you use OTS 302 pistons (usually .030 over), a stock truck rod and buy a cast crank for a little over $200. The 302 pistons are one of the cheapest pistons you can buy (if you want really cheap pistons). But when people build a 393 for a cubic inch specific build (like if they are racing with lbs per ci), they generally use a 6.125" or 6.250" rod and a different piston. In fact, this version is what you're going to get if you buy a forged 393. The short rod kits are only made because they are cheap. The longer rod kits are the better kits. That's why you don't see 5.95" rod forged 393s.

The difference in price in the cast crank 393 and 408 kits is $50. I'm not giving up 15ci for $50. Options are endless but prices are in my sig.

fullauto.. i don't mean to slander your post so don't take this offensively, but in all respects a forgedOTS 5.0 piston (.030 over) along with forged rods and a forged crank could be had for about how much?

also, won't a longer rod stroker kit change the rev limit?
