I did not catch the steetable, dependable partfrom the OT. I do not drive mine very much, it is more for show and track use, for a DD i use my old trusty f-250.

The only problem with driving 408s on the street is after a few thousands miles and some abuse the rings wear do to the rod ratio and the angle its onputs a uneven load on the rings and they wear.

Please don't tell me you actually believe this crap. Look at your sig. You're obviously doing something right. Jay Allen would burn you at the stake if he saw you post this.

Oh no!....another R:S discussion..... and from a CI customer?.....

OK, OK.....here are some examples of OEM engines and their R:S ratios:
BBC 454 = 1.5338 from the factory
SBC 400 = 1.4840 from the factory
I6 Ford 250 = 1.5038 from the factory

Now, the 408 variants are 1.50, 1.53 and 1.56.....why would they last less than the 454's and I6 250's I've serviced with 250k+ miles?.....comercial duty BTW.

most people never get 100,000 miles out of their 347's and 408's because what they were built for.....and one purpose in mind....to race it....increase performance = decrease reliability....is there a happy medium yes but it's a give and take senerio...I have a friend with 80000 miles on his 347 and it's still running great but then again it doesn't see track duty....also you'll find out when you get a 500 hp plus car built you want to drive it less and less on the street...as someone mentioned above it becomes a pain in the ace! that's what I thought I would do is drive mine everyday but once I slapped the big cam, heads and 11 to 1 compression with a slew of other mods....yeah the car goes ***** to the wall but man it's nerve racking driving it...loud lumpy idle and rides like a board on wheels with all the chasis stiffening I've done.....it's more of a full on race car now

And to answer you header question. I use MAC 1 3/4 long tubes. The fit is tight, but does fit. You have to run your steering shaft thru the pipes. Mine has no rubbing at all. I am thinking of stepping up my headers though. When i put the header gasket on it was covering a good bit of the exhaust port, not horizontal but vertical wise. I wound up using my dremel tool to shave away some the gasket. I have been lucky so far, not leaks.
