Default 408 streetable?

This is the engine im having built this winter wanted to know if it would be streetable and reliable for racing on the weekends.

DSS level 20351 block
Scat forged crank and H-beams
JE flatop pistons-10:2:1
Lunati custom ground cam-667 lift
Brodix track 1 fully cncd- 195cc 2.08x1.60 68cc
Victor jr intake fully ported
830 hp carb

This motor was done by Keith Craft and was called the Hulk- same parts above, it was in hot rod magazine in 2003 but he used a ford sportsman block instead. this motor was dynoed at 647 hp @ 6700 rpms and 596 lbs oftrq @ 4800 rpms. i was going to use around a 600 lift cam to make it more steetable and to make the powerband decrease around 5500-6200 rpms i dont want to spin the motor that high to hit peak hp. Just wondering what kind of numbers this motor would produce in a 3000lb stang with driver in a 1/4 as long as all the power gets to the ground. Also what would be a good tranny to use with this combo and to have it live a long life with that much torque. And would this be streetable? thanks

Are you going to use a solid roller? Because they most likely did. Streetable is all relative, but I don't see why it couldn't be. Put a C4 behind it. It should run 10s N/A.

I believe it was a roller but i may be wrong, i have a standad 4 spd in it now i was going to put a 5 spd in it, but for some reason i cant find a standard t-5 ot t-56 or any other 5 speed to handle that much torque they all max out around 450 and there very expensive, but i looked at a tci super street fighter c-4 or c-6 for 1000 from summit and it says it can handle 650 horse, if i went automatic what kind of torque converter would i need to get for that high lift cam?3500? thanks

You can use a TKO-600. The 600 means it can handle 600 lbs torque. I run onebehind my 357. I am not sure how much power i have, but it is enough. Stage 2 Ported TW's, 588/622 solid roller, dur @ .050 is 246/259, with the 1.7 roller rockers it increases lift some but i forget the formula to use. It also has a little over 11:1 compression. I run it to 6800 and never had a prob. with my 5-speed.

Divide by 1.6 (tofind lobe lift)then multiply by 1.7 for your lift. It's .625/.661 with 1.7s.

Number one, like it has been said streetable is relative, I no longer have an interest in driving a sub 11 second car on the street, it eventuall becomes a pain in the ***. Especially with tuning and re-tuning and tuning and suspension issues, the difference between track and street, spherical bushing upper and lowers and how unforgiving they are. However there are tons that still do so my hats off to you nd them

Next, you may not find everything you need from Summit, you might have to go to an independent builder to get a good solid C-4. The problem you will have is stall speed, that is where the rubber usualy meets the road, if you are going to use that power wisely, then stall is important, from the looks of your setup you will be in the ballpark of 5000-6000+, which an really be a huge pain on the streets also, doable but a pain.

Short answer is yeas, you can do it. Basically when my last project went 10.00 I decided to leave it on the track and never drove it on the street again. The next one (another 408) will e sub 10' and I have no interest in showing anyone at the burger stand how cool it sounds...lol

ok then i think it would be easier to handle on the street with a standard, by the way how much horsepower does it take to run 10's. alot of people tell me i can get to 10s on a 408,410,418,420,427 strokers but if i can make a 347 pump out around 510 horse on pump gas would it be able to run mid to low 10s or not. also what area good header to use with a 351 and be able to bolt up and have room and not modifiy anything for them to fit. People say to use hooker compition long tube 1 3/4 headers but i cant see myself paying 500 for them is there a cheaper header that wont give you problems installing them? thanks for the replys
