Default 351w stroked to 408 question

Ok here goes, i have a 351w that i had machined and i put in a forged rotating assembly, crank, rods, pistons, and right now i do not have the cash to buy a good set of heads, so i put the stock ones back on, everything got magnafluxed and cleaned so it is all in good working order. but i need to know how it will perform with a decent intake manifold and carburator. so i guess my question is will i make at least some decent power right now with the stock heads and a mild cam?? i know you guys need more info but just let me know if im sorta headin in an alright direction

stock heads are going to be really restrictive on a 408. depending on the year of the heads they might actually be 302 heads so stock heads on a 408 arnt going to breath at all. you can use them but it wont be able to breath at all.

My advice would be to save some duckies and get into some after market heads. Stock heads are just not going to impress you much.

Right. It will run yes, but it will be night and day once you get the H/C/I combo where it needs to be. Until then, your choking it

one more question for ya madmen if i may, do you think i will need to have the 2 bolt mains drilled for four bolts or girdled at all?? really not looking to go over 500-600 hp once everything is said and done. but as long as i got the engine still on the stand do you think its worth it?

No I dont think doing the 4 bolt will be needed at that power. 351w blocks will hold big power and no on the girdle also. I have seen many 9sec cars with stock 351W block and power adders.

You can weaken block by drilling for 4 bolt mains, not necessary. I disagree about the girdle, it may not strengthen block, but it doe's keepcrank from walking and could prevent further damage if something in bottom end were to break.
