2k enough to go?
Ok guys, here's the deal, I'm prolly gonna have to pull the motor out of my car for some work. So i was thinking, maybe i should go ahead and drop a 351 in it. If I go the cheap route, I might be able to find a longblock for like $1000 used? im talkin like, ready to go in, machine work done and they abandon project or something, and then another thousand for the headers, lower intake(i have edelbrock performer upper) and the pan, is this realistic? Anyone think I could find a longblock that cheap?

well, how much HP are we talking with some afctory 351w ported heads and a cam then? I dont have tons of money to put into this right now, but id rather not rebuild my 302, then next year turn around and build a 351

If what you're talking about, it will be a waste of time.
Just rebuild your 302 and save the headaches

even if you just get it in there for now then pull it later. i do plan on this swap and when i do it i am going to do what you are talking about. just get a running 351 and buy the swap stuff and get it in there first make sure everything fits and it is running well. then down the road you can mod it. i would hate to build a 351 just to run out of money and never even get it in the car like so many people do.

stock 351W's make about 260hp vs. 225hp for our 302's
for the headaches involved, No a 35hp gain is not worth it.
You're basically putting a truck engine in your Mustang
HIGH power 351's need to be built from the ground up, not just have some heads
and cam swapped onto them.
