RE: Tires for hooking
MIckey Thompson sportsman pro's. THey actually have pretty deep tread. I bet youll smoke your clutch before you break them loose.
Mind you, they are a street slick. So they have relatively flimsy sidewalls.

im pretty sure theres no lack of power but thanks for your lack of knowledge, and as far as bfg's over nittos i get the same 60 foot with either tire ive ran diffrent tires to see which were better because of all the opinions, and the MT's are the best i can run between a .10 and .05 second faster 60 foot with MT's over BFG or nittos, as for the BFG its a fairly old technology that they are using they havent changed too much over the past, there is a new tire in R&D tho and that one is supposed to be a compitition drag radial

RE: Tires for hooking
Ok now im confused, ive got 17" cobra r's 10.5 wide. What size tire would be good for rear that would fit? Also i dont want mickeys plus they dont have 245 45s, I am hesitant at getting drag radials seeing that i wouldnt really be at the strip just on highway and im afriad of losing control on wet pavement. Which tire would be the best spin protection with good wet trac. and what exact size for my rims?

RE: Tires for hooking
245 is gonna look way wierd on a 10.5 wheel, 245 is ok on a 9" wheel, i know most the companies dont list this size but when i called around they do make them, its a 315/35 17, or its a 30, i cant remember the problem i ran into with the radial on a 17" rim is the wider you go the lower the profile gets, and for drag tire u want a taller profile so when u drop psi you get that wider foot print, but the 315 is significantly bigger then a 245 or and slightly bigger then a 285, so youll be doin ok going from 40 to 30 or 35.

RE: Tires for hooking
you dont really want a wider foot print for a launch grip setup, you want a longer foot print, IE: a 235/60R15 in the same tire as a 295/50R15 should have more grip on a launch with the correct pressure in them. Wider tires are good for side traction, like cornering. The other thing with a tire size is that you want to make sure you arent too tall, to wide, or two narrow. you want the width and height of the tire to be a balance for the weight of a car, and keep the PPSI (pounds per square inch of the foot print pressure, not tire air pressure) at a good balance. When you run a 315/35R17 on the back of a mustang (example number only) you may put down something like 22 PPSI on the foot print, picture putting the car ona scale that has apad every square inch. now that same car on a 235/60R15 will have something line 41 PPS. Now you can go to extreem on either side of this, two wide and short (wide skinny contact patch) and you'll spin like a ****, same with too narrow and tall of a tire, so there had to be a balance there, if this is all making sense. Just dont try and stuff the widest ting under there you can, if wider was better, you would see 3 foot wide tires on dragsters. Ever notice how many 10 second cars are running on a 10.5 inch wide 26 inch tall or 28 inch tall slick?

RE: Tires for hooking
yes you are right bout the tall ness of the tire thanks for the reminder/refresher i do forget things every once and a while, but you need to remember hes got a 17 inch rim, not a 15, MT BFG Nitto on a 17 inch rim wont go much more then a 40 profile which still comes out to about 24 - 25 inches tall if i remember right, and thats about as much as u can fit under the 95 without clearance issues. if he had a 15 inch rim he could probly run a 50-55 R with no problem but the 17 inch rim just wont fit, and looking at tire charts heres some sizes from BFG
P275/40R17/LL
P315/35R17/LL
the wider you go the lower the profile,(in my previous post i wasnt saying this is what u want to do this is just how BFG and most tire manufactures do it with the DR). you can put the 275 on a 10.5 inch wheel but it will look terrible in my opinion its not wide enough to fill out a 10.5 wheel thats why i recomended the 315. the 5mm profile diference wont be that noticeable i dont think.
