6 to 8 thousand depending on if ya get cast crank vs forged, inexpensive vs expensive carb, I beamvs H beam rods, most cams vs solid roller cam, and a bunch of little knick knacks that you can put on for added strenght. If ya want 500 at the wheels I would go 408 with 11.1 compression or maybe a shade under depending on what kind of gas you can get in your area. I run 93pumpgasbut i know some people can only get the 91 pump gas

It doesnt really matter here 393 or 408 is a great combo's
you should easily make 425-500 with no much of a problem, itmainly depends on your compression ratio like hillbilly said

also 393 will probably be better for street driven applications. on 408's thewrist pinsets up higher on the piston sothe oil ringacctuallypassesacross thewrist pin hole. this causes the engine to use alot more oil than the 393.

I agree with worm , i read were these 393 combo could see up to 50,000 if treated right mainly becasue of the rod ratio

not true on the oil ring in the 408... my mahle pistons do NOThave the oil ring even close to the wrist pin. my 408 has a 6.250 inch rod hows that for rod ratio, the longer the piston is at the top of the cylinder the better for power.
