Default dss block

im starting a project car that i want for street and strip and am thinking of doing a DSS 408. i want to make around 500+ hp all natural. would the DSS super pro bullet 408 be a good choice for this? i am thinking of running AFR heads and from what i have seen on their heads iwould have to run at least the 205cc or225cc heads for this size block and power.

I can't answer your question about the DSS block since I never bought from them, but if I wanted info about them I would call or email DSS.

there are better options out there. the blocks they make are pretty nice and the price is ok. plenty left to be desired on the rotating assembly's though. they use cheap chinese blanks for the pistons. best bet is to get one of their blocks and get a good Eagle kit off of Summit or something like that. a 205 head is a good choice. look into the Edelbrock Victor Jr. i have them for my 351 build and the price cant be beat for a 210cc head. and go solid roller. you'll never look back (except for your rearview mirror).

I would suggest you find a reputable builder local to you to build/assemble your engine, so you will have someone to call if you have any questions, or if there is a noise or something, you can always go there and deal with them one on one. the only negative i have ever heard about dss is the warranty is sometimes disputed by them....my .02 and use a tfs r head by the way, solid roller, dont waste ur money on efi if fast is what you want, go carb, if you want a mild daily driver, go efi...

I'm reminded of an old article in Musclemustangfastfords about the FRPP 392. It was originally equipped with GT-40X heads and they gained 80hp to 500+hp just buy swapping to AFR 185 heads. It had the XE282HR cam, TFS R for the 351, 75mm TB, 76mm C&L MAF and a A9L EEC IV computer. It was my dream motor for the longest time!
