Default Need a head/intake combo for my shortblock

Im currently building a 88 notch. I have my new shortblock. Its a .30 over 1970 block, forged probe flat top pistons, edelbrock performe rpm cam #7182. The problem im having is finding a head/intake combo to produce the most power. Any suggestions help. Are flat tappet heads different from roller heads?

Do the probe pistons have dual valve reliefs? I would look at Trick Flow R heads or canfields or High ports from trick flow. If the car is a 5 speed I would also look at a vic jr intake with a Pro Systems carb. You might want to look into a different camshaft as well ans sell the one you have before you run it. Buy your heads bare, get a cam made for your combo and then have the heads assembled with the propper spings locks, retainers, and valves to complement your build. Also do a precise compression calculation on your engine to get the right size combustion chambers in the cylinder heads to make the compression correct. Compression ratio advertisements are usually generic.(far from correct) The cam you have will not truely get the full potential out of a good head and intake choice.

Joe.

The pistons have two valve reliefs. Advertised compression is actually 10:1 w/64cc chambers. The guy that had it before ran vic jr. heads on it. I dont really know alot about heads so i would like to get a complete set. any ideas?

AFR 205's would be perfect for it. thats what i had on my 357W and they worked flawlessly. you can order them with springs for either hyd roller or mech roller for the same price. remember that a 69-70 351W has the 9.48" deck height, not the 9.50 deck. you need to order an intake manifold accordingly.
throw that cam in the garbage. get a good roller like a COMP XFI248 or a solid roller like a XR286 or XR292 if you want an OTS cam. you obviously cant beat custom made though.
as for an intake, cant beat a Victor Jr.

anyone want to touch base with ideas for a roller block? not to go off topic, figured it would be appropriate here...i just want ideas on what i can look forward to on my next rebuild...a 95 351 will have notched pistons right? i was thinking trick flow heads? and i was checking out top end kits on summit. i havent looked into a custom cams but ive heard theyre great from everyone that has one made.
