What year? If you are going to make enough power to worry about the block I'm sure you will need a new rotating assembly.

lol i won't be worrying about the block, i'm not building anything that badass, just looking at using some turbo's on a stock rotating assembly no more than 575-600hp crank that is, and maybe more for track days. this will be a DIY JY project as there are plenty of cheap turbos from them that can feed CFM's needed to feed a stock shortblock 351w

your gonna need to change the pistons to a much lower compression number like 8 to 1 or 8.5 to 1 for the boost. While your doing that at least put in a set of I beam rods if not H beam rods or else you are going to make pieces. You may get away with a stock cast crank if you keep your rpms under 6500 or so.

Doing that sort of power on a stock bottom end is asking for it. my bud runs a 351w in his truck that he upped the compression and put new heads and all that on it but left the internals alone. Took it to a truck pull and he stretched every one of his rods and ruined the motor. Now that may be a bit heavier load then what your mustang is gonna see but at the track everyone always pushes their equipment a little harder.

Also from what I have read around here the safety limit on a stock block is about 600 horses.

what is the limit on the rods, but anyone that says the limit on the 351 block is 600rwhp is full of it...we have a guy here making 750 before the 200 progressive shot and he runs 5.90s @ 121 in the 1/8th the block is a 94 block

not to hijack this thread or anything....along the same lines as the OP....so if you rebuilt (new rings, honed, bearings, gaskets, etc.) a 351 with stock rotating assembly and fitting it with a good H/C/I combo with higher compression...could this be a good alternative to making power besides boost or stroking?

there's plenty of proven 351w combo's that are VERY mild and net 380+ horse power to the wheel. There's also WILD combo's that arnt really streetable, putting out 600hp n/a with enough work.

my goal is 350 to the wheel, and a 150shot on top when i put in a 351w
