Default Timing indicator ?

Hey folks,

This may seem like a silly question, but I figured better safe then sorry.

This is my timing indicator..................

I painted the top edge white and set timing off of this indicator. and just from looking at it as it was running it only seemed logical that this is right?

If so what is the little cut out and round window for?

What is the general theory about initial / Total timing for these motors? I had read anywhere between 10-15* for initial & around 34 total?

all of what you posted is correct. As for the "window" i havent a clue why its there.. but the cutout is a relief cut so the indicator could be bent
