you guys seem to know alot more than the people ive been talking to about this engine swap maybe you can give me a straight answer. I have a 98 gt . Do i need a k member from a 94-95 or just motor mounts? or will it drop right in ( guessing not)?

i would say u need to the motor mounts and prolly the k-member as well since the 4.6 mounts are different.

i would recomend to go ahead and buy a tubuler k member because it sheaves off alot of weight and also gives u more room for aftermarket headers. u could prolly pick one up for around 1100..

You can use a 94-5 GT K-member or a 94-98 V6 K-member. Just realize that the swap is pretty involved if you plan on staying EFI. Better off buying a 94-95 GT and starting from there. You have to swap the wiring harness, fuel system, trans, gauge cluster, computer, and a few other misc parts. Those are just the major parts.

86StangFast....$1100 dollars for a K-Member? WTF?!? You can pick up the BEST k member on the market from Maximum Motorsports for around $700. You can also go with a D&D K member (great quality, customer service, etc.) for around $400 shipped.

S351R13..... What does the gauge cluster have to do with doing a motor swap?

Also, I would also recommend just buying a 94-95 5.0. You will save yourself a whole boatload of money.

im going with a carb for now so i won't need a computer or wiring. the 281 i have now has a cracked intake manifold, rear main seal leaking like crazy. and a pretty nasty clicking sound, and all the synchros in my transmission are gone. i have a 351 block in my warehouse, i figured it would cost about the same to have the351 built as it would the 281. even if it does cost a little more who thats ok i don't have that tired 281 any more. as far as gauges go i can get by with the bare essentials for now. in the future i'll go with after market efi. csn't afford it all at once but trying to get back on the road as soon as possible.

I have seen tubular k members around the internet for low 200 s should i trust that my stock control arms and new motor mounts will bolt up to this, or is this one of those things you get what you pay for?

The pin programming on the back of the guage cluster is different than the 94-95 cars. If you swap in the 94-95 harness your gauge cluster won't work correctly. When buying a aftermarket K-member contact the company before buying if you plan on using your stock control arms.
