SCT, SCT II, Or Predator?
Hey alot of people post about this but i guess i missed those ones. I know alot of people on here have used each one just wondering what one would be the best choice for my 05 Automatic. Someone suggested the C&L Predator package and i thought the C&L was a good one but then i cant decide between tuners. Thanks
I had the predator, and when I had it dyno'd my car TQ curve was all over the place. Not smooth at all. Then when I couldn't find a local shop that supported the pred, i decided to switch to SCT. As for CAI's/Tuners, here is what I have researched...
• Doug/Bamachips: XCAL2 and your choice of TI or C&L CAI. (When I switched to his tune for my old TI, it shaved off 3/10ths on my time, his daily driver is an auto as well, though I think he has several test mules/test customer cars at his disposal)
• Evolution: XCAL2 and C&L (lot of guys use them, they have a good rep, actually met them at FFW, good bunch of guys)
• AZDynoChip: XCAL2 and ? (don't know if they do the internet thing, they will tune any CAI and produce some of the highest dyno numbers)
• Lidio/Alternative Auto: XCAL2 and CAI (I did some research and several shops referred me to him for Automatics, his personal daily driver is an auto)
• Brenspeed: XCAL2 and C&L (another highly reputable shop)
• Justin/VMP Tuning: XCAL2 and ? (Considered one of the top dogs for the V6 stang community and collaborates with Doug on occasion to my knowledge, he’s also tested more CAI’s on the same dyno session than anyone I’ve seen so far, read about it here: http://www.v6power.net/vb/showthread.php?t=25551 )
There was a lot of debate on the autos. I personnaly called a lot of tuners about this, and included my notes above. For me, it was important when I was NA, that the tuner tuning my car had an AUTO test mule, which to my knowledge is Doug and Lidio. For others it is a non-issue as long as the TQ management stuff is done.
Hope this helps.
NOTE: Yes, I have reused the list above many times.

The only thing I will say is that if you have an auto and don't plan on bringing it to the dyno for some custom tuning stay away from the Diablo because it will not allow you to change the shift firmness and the shift point alteration leaves alot to be desired, the SCT2 canned tune had gotten better comments from users, but other then that there about the same.
I have an auto and a preditor and if I could would change it out for a SCT2 in a second.

I have (now) both the superchips micro tuner and the sct 2 from Brenspeed. The micro tuner got me to 15.1 with S&B cai at the strip and if the rain holds off I will go to the strip tonight with no changes except the sct on 87 octane. The sct pulls harder in the middle and top than the micro in my street tests, but only the strip can tell. When I got the sct the car was bad on launch, so I talked with brenspeed and put in 4 degrees of timing down low and that made it launch much better. They are going to send me a new tune where I can advance it more and see how that works. Brenspeed has been very helpfull and avialible. This weekend I am going to put my MAC shorty headers on and next tuesday my t-loc and 3:73's go in. Then back to the strip on wendsday. Hopefully my c&l will be in soon so I can compare those too. I'd go for the sct and a cai.
When I was researching handheld tuners, it came down to this... nobody in town uses Diablo! So, the X-cal 2 made so much sense. I went with the X-cal 2 over the regular X-cal because it seemed far more user friendly... and, it is... a breeze to use... It's Idiot (ie Hamid) proof.
