Ford Lightning - Roots style blower, Thunderbird-Roots. All s/c that ford uses are roots. and for the last time THEIR IS NO TWIN-SCREW CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENT FOR OUR 4.0 STANGS. If you can prove me wrong i would be more than happy to admit i was wrong b/c i would love nothing more than the propect of puttn a twin-screw s/c on my stang. If Saleen does anything for our 4.0s it will be CAI and exhasut nothing more.
well saleen did more than 270 changes to the gt so it should be alittle more than exhaust and cai :P

I'll believe it when i see it. A twin screw s/c for the 4.0 that is.

right its like the same thing as the vortec that is pretty popular around here. they are both centrafugial (sp?)... I wasnt wanting to go with one of those because they have lag like a turbo, but the draw off the engine like a normal supercharger, but they do have the possability of making the most boost, but since I am not really planning on going with more than like 7 psi I figured the twin screw would be what I want. I was confused about the twin screw and the roots and thought that they were the same thing, but after reading about it they are different and the twin screw is much better, but it is more expensive. Didnt they make a twin screw for the 4.0 on the explorers? what did they have on the ford tunderbolt? is it even F/I?
next time your in Michigan we'll go for a ride and see what you think of the centfif... I was leary about getting a cetrif with an automatic... Boy, my fears were unfounded... I couldn't be happier with my setup! LOL!

well ive taken apart a GM roots type supercharger (for the 3.8.. and ive seen pictures of "twin screws") and to me it just seems like they are changing hte impellor types.. i perosnally wouldnt name it something different.. i dont even think its named something different on www.howstuffworks.com i think they only list roots and centrifugal.

I was at saleen planning to have some work done. (Which Never happened) Anyways one of the engineers was telling me their getting the tune right and their gonna take it down to the desert to test it out. They said by jan or feb. I asked what would be in it but they wouldnt tell me. so i decided to ask just sales people and the secretary. 2 told me it would have a cai 1 told me a supercharger. I dont know what to expect. I see probably a cai. It just seems to be cheaper and when i was there it seemed liek ALL the employees hated my v6 with a passion.SteveSaleen himself was the only one there who thought it would be cool to add some of the saleen stuff onto it.

EDIT: I do know it wi;ll have gears though because when we were talking bout swapping rearend and what not to get some saleen parts there they said their gears for the v6 wasnt computer tuned yet. So i dunno if that was a slip up or what. but the name was called V6 GT by all the employees.
oh jeese i might have to change my christmas list around

Heh I agree i doubt they will go with the S/C But i know they will add tons and tons of stuff to the v6. It has to compete with the cs6 after all =)

hey I will definatly take you up on that, I would love to go for a ride in "The Mistress", but I was by no means bashing the centrifugial (sp?) supercharger... it will provide the most boost out of any supercharger and especially at WOT in an auto... when your are at WOT after first gear you stay about 4000 RPMs so you are probably getting about full PSI after first gear... now that I think about it, that is probably better for gas mileage when you dont want to kick it. I was just quoting what was written about them in Wicipedia... its just if I wanted to get something where boost depended on RPMs I would probably go with a turbo, or even twin turbos since God knows we have enough room under our hood! I swear we could transport a family of mexicans across the border under our hood!

GM probably means Eaton... Eaton is a "modified" Roots. From Eaton's website:

The roots supercharger has been around for a long time, how is the Eaton supercharger different? The Eaton supercharger is essentially a Roots blower pump, with one substantial design wrinkle; each rotor has been twisted 60 degrees to form a helix. The two counter rotating rotors have three lobes, which intermesh during operation. These twisted rotors, along with specially designed inlet and outlet port geometry, help to reduce pressure variations resulting in a smooth discharge of air and a low level of noise during operation. This arrangement also improves efficiency over traditional Roots superchargers. With helical rotors and an axial inlet the Eaton supercharger can be spun to up to 14,000 rpm, thereby reducing package size.

Did not take it as you bashing the centrif.... Like I mentioned... I was very concerned about lag myself!!!
