Maybe i'm just stupid but i see alot of people mention S197. What does that refer to like whats that even mean? I would guess something to do with the engine but not too sure.

Actually it has nothing to do with the engine - both GT's and V6's are S197 platforms. The term refers to the general chassis and body design of the car. For instance Mustangs built from 1979-1993 are referred to as Fox body even though there were subtle and some not-so-subtle changes in the outward appearance of the car during those years. The same for Mustangs from 1994-2004 which are SN95 platforms; and of course all 2005+ Mustangs, including the Shelby Cobra, are S197's.

EDIT: When I mention "chassis" I'm using it as a general term that refers primarily to the structural framework and not necessarily to all of the mechanical parts of the car attached to it.

True, i really didnt know anything about our cars before i found the forums. Which is why i try to post as much as i can so i can get a better sense of what i know about the mustangs. Hope i get as smart as alotta you guys on here lol.

64 1/2 -73 classics, 74-78 mustang II, 79-93 fox body, 94-98 sn-95, 99-2004 new edge.. 2005 plus s197


cavaliers are J bodies so are sunfires, firebirds camaros and transams are F bodies, just as examples
