OK so are you saying I would be better off with 410's? If at 80 mph with 410's I would be under 3000 rpm are you saying with 373 I will be just over 3000 rpm? I'm not really worried about gas mileage as it's not a daily driver so I won't be putting more than 5 or 6 thousand miles a year on it. I hope the T-Lock holds up, I was advised by Currie (big name in 9" rear ends) that for a mostly street car the Detroit lsd isn't as good as the T-Lock. I guess I'll find out, mine just showed up today! Now I have to wait 3 to 4 weeks for the gears.[>:]

the bigger the ratio the worst milage youll get!

our stock ratio is like 3:3? why would you get a better gas milage when 3:73 is a closer to stock ratio than teh 4:11 or 4:10 (doesnt matter) the taller the gear the more torque you put tothe ground, and the less milage you get gears are write up as how mnay turns it take the pinion to make 1 full turn of the crown..

so 3:73 is taking your pinion gear (connected to the driveshaft) turning 3 times and 3/4. to make the crown turn once (crown is perpendicular to the pinion and turns the wheels)

with the 4:10 or 4:11 your pinion gear is turning 4.1 times to make the crown make a full revolution.. that my friend is more rotation which is more RPM..

if you want sweet mialge get a set of gears that are 2.20 with those gears.. in 4th gear on your tranny.. traviling at a designated speed, will be like traveling at 2250rpm... you burning that much less gas for the speed relative to the rpm in that gear

with 373 in 4th gear, you would be at like 3300-3500rpm your burning that much more fuel to go the same speed in the same gear

with 4:11 in 4th geear, youll be closer to 3500-3600 rpm to maintain the same speed in 4th gear, and your burning even more fuel than 3:73

i hope you get the picture, and mustangman i dont mean to offend you.. but your sig says it all

theres no way youll maintain 24mpg with 4:10

I will be really anxious to hear how you like them... we have basically same setup, and I am considering 3.73 and TLok for my silver vert......

my buddy got 21 mpg with 4.10s on a 120 mile round trip, a car with 2 less cylenders and a slightly taller 5th gear should get a little bit better, now i know its not a s197, but PM 03yellowpony, if he could get 23 mpg wiht the old crapy 4R70W auto tranny you should be able to get mid 20s in the new ones

btw, its not the gears that kill your milage, its your right foot

he doesnt care aboot it anyways for gas milage, its not even like it will be 2 mpg, it will still be well over 20, mid 20s if you keep your foot off the floor

Congrats, and I heard too that Ford Racing is a bit behind on the 373's, but they are worth the wait. You can bet on it!
