Default driveshaft question

how much can the stock driveshaft take? with that what would be a good oen to swap to? would a GT one fit and be stronger? or should buy an aftermarket one? is it really crucial for a N/a stang to upgrade this? i occasionaly have hit up to 110 but very rare. any input is appreciated.

and on that note how difficult is it to do? could i do it myself? or does it have to be installed. thank you

Depends on the year. The 2005 and early 2006 driveshafts lacked retaining clips and are unsafe at high speed (>110). The later ones have the clips and can handle what you are dishing out. The GT one will not fit and and is also a heavy POS. I wouldn't bother with upgrading your driveshaft from your description of your car and driving habits. It isnot that difficult of a job but I wouldn't recommend it in your case.

It's heavy and overly complicated for a driveshaft but it'shighly unlikely to break especially the way your driving habits are.
What happened (in a very few cases) is that at high speed/high rpm, the lack of retaining pins was causing the u-joint to slip out due to vibration. When that happened the driveshaft end dropped and hit the ground at high rpm causing it to break.
