Default PCM

has anyone considered relocating the pcm to the cabin (possibly tucked behind the glove compartment)? In extreme applications such as turbocharging/supercharging, underhood temperatures are much higher, so i thought the computer might be better off in the cabin. that, and it gives you a fair amount of room in the engine bay (if you were to shift the fuse box further in toward the headlight, or otherwise relocate it).

anyone? it's a pretty simple concept... you know, kinda like how a computer runs better in an environment with a lower temperature.

I don't know of anyone thats done it. It was designed for high heat, might be worth while in Arizona. Though the AZ guys havent reported PCM issues.

well, we don't know if this would provide any benefit or not, unless someone's actually willing to give it a shot, so how about we not shoot down ideas before they get tested out...

I'll be testing this out when I get back in the fall or so.

and besides, just because it's been running fine so far doesn't mean you won't have problems with it later. If you look at alot of drag setups, pcms are usually mounted on the passenger side in the cabin. gotta be a reason for that, right?

Yeah...I'd say the reason most drag cars have them located on the passenger side is because they are running NON street legal setups...and the temperature inside the engine of a drag car far exceeds the temperature in the mustang. Most engine setups in a drag car are designed and worked on just for the 1/4 mile runs. Most of the time the engine needs repairs right after the run because they run so high. If you were pushin somethin crazy like 1500rwhp then I would consider relocating...but that is my own opinion...don't take it personally!

well, the sportsman class ecotec cars run with the pcm inside... as do a number of cars i've been reading about in a book i have.. it just seems logical.. the casing can only provide for so much heat deflection.

Well, I haven't heard any reports or anything related to the PCM breaking down with the addition of a Turbo/SuperCharger. But I guess it could be a possibility? I guess you could just go ahead and move it and air on the side of safety...I just haven't heard anything about the PCM being a problem with the heat SC's put out.

yeah.. i was just saying, it might be a bit beneficial (and custom, custom never being a bad thing).. it cleans up the engine bay too... while you're doing it, you could run wires with a better conductor (yes, naysayers, i am aware that this could be costly).

Yeah, and customization is the way everything is done these days...
