A competent shop would charge you 2 hours labor max ... that's all it took me to install it on the ground WITHOUT a lift ... with a lift they should be able to swap it in 45 minutes.

my shop currently charges 80hr for labr and your probably looking at about a three hour job. its relativley a simple swap you could do on the ground with some basic hand tools in an afternoon though. sometimes you can find a mechanic that does work at their home shop and would probably charge you half of what the garage would.

No way it should take 3 hours with air tools ...

Put car on lift - 5 minutes
Remove wheels, calipers and backing plates - 15 minutes
Remove lower shock bolts - 2 minutes
remove LCA bolts - 2 minutes
remove UCA bolt - 1 minute
Remove Panhard bolts - 2 minutes (easier to do swap if you totally remove the bar)
Drive Shaft Bolts - 4 minutes

That is 31 minutes to drop the rear .... now add 35 minutes since you have to torque everything putting it back together ... add 10 minutes to actually drop the 7.5 and lift the 8.8 ... That is a little over an hour for the swap using air tools.

Add a few more minutes if you V6 has the rear sway bar - 4 bolts ...

This is definitely a do it yourself job ...

i was refering to the industry standard for what the average charge for that job would be, most mechanics get paid by the job not by the hour. so yea depending on how experienced the technician is depends on how fast he can do the work. regardless of that the price is the same wether the tech gets it done in an hour or three hours. we dont punish techs by paying them less for being efficient and quick.

Correct ... I understand shops charge by the book .. not actual labor hours worked. I was trying to convince the OP that its worth just doing it himself instead of paying another $250 on top of the cost of the rear plus shipping. If the axle is $900 + $150 shipping + $250 install ... he'd be better off just building his 7.5 rear for a heck of a lot cheaper.

Anyone have a write up for this? I really don't want to pay someone to install this for me...
