Auto Trans

RE: Auto Trans
NO! Even if you over rev the engine you will only run into the rev limiter. Just don't go doing anything dumb like neutral starts or driving fast and droppingDOWN to too low a gear. Down shifting in the rain is a no-no too. Plus around town(up to 40 mph)I turn OFF the overdrive. I shift manually all the time. Have fun!

RE: Auto Trans
awesome...ok i lied i have manually shifted
just didnt wanna say i did and someone say yeah its bad and feel like an idiot lol
ok cool that answers my question, i only manually shift friday and saturday nights out cruzing
it really confuses some other drivers cuz say you start out in first and go about 3500 rpm than shift to second than take ur foot off the accelorator and wait a min?!?! confused myself ah yes, take ur foot off the accelorator and wait for the rpms to drop and than accelorate, it really comes close to sounding like a standard.

I hope this thread is not dead....
Hello Everyone,
I am the owner of a new (my first new w/ 25 miles) Mustang... My previous 2000 Mustang lost a fight with a concrete divider.
Anyway... my work driving distance had changed, a few months before the accident, so I decided to get an AutoTrans this time, with much more traffic driving involved.
As an owner of 4 previous mustangs all 5 speed manuals, I have learned to drive a certain way....Shifting to 4th for highway ramps, shift to neutral and coasting to a stop, or down a hill when there is a low speed limit.
I like the Overdrive disable option on the Auto, how is it intended to be used? I would like to use it to shift to fouth gear, for cornering and slowing down, without getting on the brakes. But find I enable the disable... and then back pretty quickly... Is this a bad??
I saw one member mention the the on-board computer should not let you do anything damaging.... does that apply in all cases, not counting road conditions.
Thanks

I turn the OD off when I get in the car and do not turn it on until I reach 50 mph. I also "downshift" into 4th when getting off the highway or slowing for oncoming congested traffic. The sweet spot for downshifting into 4th for me seems to be about 40mph. Keep in mind I have 3.73 gears. Anything higher than 50 mph and it sounds like it' snot good for the drive-train. At 40 mph, it's a very smooth transition. From 40 mph to about 55 the car feels very responsive in 4th.
