Default Zabteck TB

What is the general consensus on these? Worth the bucks on a N/A car or not? They are local to me so I could just go and pick one up easily. Sounds like an easy few H/P and better response. Thoughts??

The Zabteck TB for the 4.0L V6 enjoys a good reputation on several forums. Boss 245 runs one on his N/A beast (well, before Chris installed the FI) and netted 13.8xx 1/4 mile times. I believe a dyno tune is needed after the Zabtech though, so keep that in mind.

Not 100% sure. That's why I worded my previous post the way I did. Their website isn't 100% clear about requiring a new tune, although they do say it is a OEM replacement. However, elsewhere on their website they comment about how their TB's will change the idle and rev characteristics. Perhaps a better way to say it is that a Dyno Tune is suggested for optimal results! Another good suggestion would be to ask Zabteck directly before you buy.

Don't these cars adjust fuel according to air coming in, and air temp? I read on another thread that a CAI made the car run lean, but it seems that such small mods should be easily compensated by the computer. Of course tuning will improve performance, even on a bone stock mustang a tune will help.

i contacted zabteck and was told if it's naturally aspirated, no tune required, but he highly recommends it if it's forced induction.

now, what qualifies as forced induction?!

FI = Nitrous, Supercharged, or Turbocharged

I too contacted Zabteck, who responded to me in a similar manner:

Yes you can run the TB's without a[n aftermarket] tune....But your right, getting a tune will also help te performance of your 'stang. But not needed to get the performance out of them.

Thanks for asking..

Interesting response from them. I may still do it.
