Default T-5 TRANNY PROBLEMS

I have an 89 gt that sounds like it grinds or whines when i let off of the gas then goes away as soon as i get back on the gas. It started out of nowhere last week, it sounded like the throwout bearing so i replaced it but it was not it. THE WIERD THING IS IT DOES NOT DO IT IN 4th gear, it still shifts fine just like before, but the tranny whines really loud in any gear, and the car vibrates aruond 3500 rpm, and in 5th gear cruising at about 60-70 mph.

Agreed - this thread should be moved.

I'd go with the bearing theory, but have an anecdote to share about transmissions: Back when I still had hair, I owned an 86 GT with the T5, and blew 3rd gear one day. Day before, it was fine, but shifting into 3rd, there was all kinds of racket. Turns out, the gears started shedding teeth (or whatever the gears in old worn-out trannys do), and 3rd was the first to go. The tranny was in such bad shape when they pulled it apart, I went with a rebuilt T5, and never looked back. That was a $1,000 bummer, though.

N/p. I know threads can be moved - maybe it takes a moderator to do that.
