Default Vortech Install ?'s

For those of you with the vortech on their V6'rs:
Could you take post a pic of the location (vacuum line) where the vacuum/boost hose line connects to? That'd help me with my install.

Oh, one last thing. I don't have the correct air filter. From what I can tell, they are K&N Brand. I'm partial to the S&B. Soooo I was gonna order one but I don't know if I need a 5, 6, or 7" filter length until I install the intake pluming. Will an 8" Fit from my C&L?

Can someone measure the length on theirs? GT or V6 are the same intake.

Thanks a billion

Are you talking about the vaccum to the BPV, then you can hookup the vacuum anywhere you can. I think the vortech instructions have you hookup the vacuum to the fuel pressure sensor; you can also use a T off the purge solenoid vacuum on the driver-side fender and get vacuum feeding into there, too.

My setup is a little different; I use the PCV port on the front of the intake on the passenger side as my source of vacuum for my BOV, being a dedicated vacuum line to only the BOV.

As far as the length, An 8" should fit; it's opening is 4".
I actually use a custom-made straight pipe instead of the curvy vortech one, but my maf and bov/bpv are setup differently from the vortech kit.

Did you make your own intake?

Piping between the supercharger and throttle body? Yes.
Used a front mounted air/air intercooler with 3" aluminum piping; clocked (rotated) the supercharger discharge port to point toward the driver side fender, piped it down through to the intercooler, then back up the passenger side to the throttle body. The maf is on the straight section before the throttle body. The BOV (a larger 40mm one and not the little Bosch plastic one) is right after the sc discharge, so the intercooler doesn't get a lot of unused hot air (except at WOT when the bov closes and all air goes through)., and thus works very well. The IATs are very close to ambient air temps at all times.

I'd love to see pics! Did you fab this setup or have a shop do it?

I fabbed it up. Needed a 31"x12"x3" intercooler core (ebay, but I got mine from a local guy who didnt use it), a aluminum piping kit (from ebay), and some silicon couplers (from various online sources), and good band clamps.
First I made a mount for the intercooler from 1-1/2" angle iron and welded it and bolted it and the intercooler in place. That took a little time to make and mount it all up properly.
Then once in place, I was able over a couple weeks to figure out and get the piping and fittings; you can temp-mount the supercharger on its bracket and bolts w/o hooking it up to the car completey; that let me reclock its position and figure out the piping peices, many had to be cut, a couple welded. I had a professional aluminum welder do the welding since i wasnt set up to do it. For every pipe fitting that was to get a hose on it, either the pipe had a lipped edge (made that way) or if it was flat/smooth, I had the welder make '****' or bumps on the ends so the hoses would not slip off. WIth good ring clamps (came with the piping kit from ebay), I've never had a hose come off.

For the BOV, I planned on adding more boost so I went with a Greddy 40mm bov instead of using the provided 1" Bosch plastic one; the BOV came with a weld-on fitting so that was welded on the alum pipe leading away from the supercharger.

I have a lot of pic, but most are not online.

If you have the ability to cut pipe and do a lot of the fabrication, I can send you a parts list of items. Otherwise you'll probably come out better getting one of the existing air-air paxton intercooler setups or something, or have someone fab it up for you.
Or easiest and what most peeps do is to just get the Vortech air/water intercooler setup and use that; it'll cost about $1000 more for the kit, but it's all there and designed to all fit.

You CAN use antifreeze in the water cooling system so freezing shouldnt be an issue for you. But I didnt want the air/water so that's why I wnet with the air/air, and have no regrets ( and no moving parts!).

If you already just got the base kit or a tuner kit, then doing an air/air setup like this will cost you $400-$500 in parts and welding costs.

Let me know if you need any more info

Super job man! Thanks for the pics. I have the liquid to air HO setup but thought there is room for improvement. Have you had your car dyno'd?

Where did you buy the 11psi pulley?

And ya, if it's not too much of a pain I'd like a list of your parts/brands for your custom inter cooler setup.
