5-speed questions
I just bought my 4th Mustang in december I LOVE this car its a 5speed and im having alot of problems with it. I grew up on a stick and it just seems to me that it should be easier to shift than what i am getting out of my car.
when i shift from 1st to 2nd there is a catch(not a grind) i took it back to the dealer and they said nothing was wrong with it. also i get alot of jerking in any gear shifting from one gear to the next..i know its not me i had my son drive to see hwat he thoguht and he said maybe conrtol arms, with the jerking and sycronizer with teh catch....just wondered what others think...is it just me or are all 5 speeds this way i have had several 5 speeds and none of them acted the way this one does
my car has 46k on it.
to me a mustang is suposse to be fun to drive this one is not
i am taking it back to the dealer on thursday

Does the jerking happen as your shifting or does it happen when you're beginning to drive in the new gear? Might also want to test drive some other stick shifts at the dealership to compare yours to
it's the T5. not the best transmission out there, but great for mass production. a shortthrow shifter, and sum torque limit bracers whill help out a lot. but in reality it's just the romote placement of the shifter. it's not directly on the transmission, like it has been on previous models.
I have a manual and have had no problems with shifting. In fact, one of the techs at my Ford Dealership said mine was very smooth in shifting.
I would take it to a transmission shop and let them take a look and see.

I'm just getting used to my 5-spd's transmission. Like you said it is kindof notchy, especially from 1st to 2nd and back, but I don't find it that annoying. Maybe what your talking about is more severe.
One of the tricks i've learned is that when you go from 2nd to 3rd you can just push forward instead of making a conscious effort to go up-right-up. the shifter moves over for you automatically.

I also have a 5-speed but haven't noticed any problems yet (only have 2,000 mi.) The only thing I can say about the tranny is that the shifts are "sloppy" but no problems or ratcheting. I can smoothly upshift/downshift. I like the advice previously posted about test driving another car for comparison.
