Default 1st gear "bucking"

every now and then when i go to take off from fist, something happens and my car starts to, the best i can describe, bucking. I'm just curious, what is causing that?

I bet you are consciously or unconsciously letting up on the gas and then reapplying based on traffic conditions, distractions in your environment, etc. I do it ever now and then, as did my friend the first time he drove the car. I think it just has something to do with the way our cars, specifically the transmissions respond to the reapplying of power.

almost all standard cars that i have driven will do that if you dont get the right combo of gas/clutch work, i can't tell you why it does it, but i dont think you have anything to worry about unless it is happening often. if it is, your clutch might be wearing out, but then again im no mechanic. gotta say i hate 'riding the bronco' every now and again, makes me look like an amateur..

That used to happen to my PP coupe occasionally. It only happened when the car was cold. Best cause I could come up with was that the initial launch RPM's were too low and giving it gas caused it to buck like a Bronco. Let it warm up a bit, and give it a bit more gas first thing while engaging/disengaging the clutch.

More RPMs on take-off equals no more bucking.
Drive it, dont let it drive you.....

First gear is just really sensitive due to the engines torque being multiplied so many times. The engine is able to speed you up or slow you down better in first than in any other gear.

My last car had a killer first gear and was even worse with this than the mustang. My advice is to ease on and off the throttle.

Thumbs up Bucking In First

I'll toss in here that mine will do this occasionally when there are a few bumps when I'm taking off and the traction control is engaged. The Mustang TCS really, really does not like bumps and will cause something like you describe.

My car never does this when the TCS is shut off.
