The stepper motors on the 05s go out.
Its either get replacement stepper motors off of eBay
and replace them or get a new cluster installed and
configured at the stealership.
Maybe its time to upgrade from a 2 guage to a 6 guage cluster?

And another new user here because of a problem
Welcome and come on in....

I did it myself. I bought it on E bay.
1. Put the steering wheel in the down most position.
2. Pull out the chrome bezels towards you.
3. Take out the four bolts holing the cluster in.
4. Un-clip the wire harness by flipping the lever.
5. Carefully pull apart the front face and back part of the cluster at the clipped areas.
6. use a paper towel and a fork to CAREFULLY pry off the needles from the gauge faces.
7. Use a hot soldering iron to melt the solder around the bad stepper motor.
8. Pull the motor out and re-solder in a new one (PIA)
9. Install in the reverse.

Oh, I take no responsibility if it doesn't work for you. It's easy to break things. Also, the needles may have to be reset when put back on. Again it's a PIA. But a hell of a lot cheaper than the stealership!

Here's a link to one of my previous posts:
https://mustangforums.com/forum/4-0l...pid-gauge.html

I ended up messing with it, replacing the motor - successfully, and the just putting in a same year GT my color 6 gauge cluster with the same mileage and no need for stealership reprogramming! I lucked out.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

You use the old cluster and replace all the steppers at once (one per guage).
Speedo 1 stepper
Tach 1 stepper
fuel guage another stepper
water temp yet another stepper
and so on and so on....
