Default Help guys---BBK CAI---Check engine light

Whats up guys.

I just installed the BBK CAI last week on my 05 V6
It seems to running great ever since, but just recently i had the CHECK ENGINE light come on. I had one of my buddies do a diagnostic check on it and these were the results:

P030: Random Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0174: System Too Lean ( Bank 2 )
P0171: System Too Lean ( Bank 1 )

My hypothesis is that my car might be running to lean and i have to resort to a TUNE.

did you unplug the battery for >30 minutes?

and is your MAF dirty?

might be coincidence...but then it sounds like a bad COP/plugs and possibly a O2 sensor

and for the PCM reset...you have to do more than 30 minutes. A few minutes unplugged won't do the trick. There is a small KAM battery that has to go dead first.

also, check the MAF gasket. and the connection where the CAI hooks to the TB. any leak at all will cause problems

Sounds like your "doesn't require a tune BBK" needs a tune.

BBK requires a tune. Any CAI that doesn't have the stock diameter MAF card area will throw lean codes. That's why K&N and Airaid and a few other don't require tunes.

Get a good tune!! VMP or bama are a good start. Most cai that don't require a tune just lean out the engine(as you have found out)and only add a very slight HP gain. Its also a very good idea to do something with your exhaust, even just a GT takeoff muffler will help a lot. These 3 mods will give a BIG boost to your V6 Mustang!!

I have followed your suggestions and went with a SCT tuner.
Followed the instructions and wham-O my car runs like new.
