Rear gears and t-lok for 7.5
Just a question about changing the rear gears and installing a T-lok in a 7.5 rear end. I have no plans of racing just want to have a little more take off power. Has anyone made this change and how has it worked for you? I know there are the take off axles from the GT models, however they are around $1000. buck plus labor.
Let me hear your thoughts.

I went that route. Gears whined bad. 2 attempts later, gears whined bad. Put the 3.31's back in, nice and quite. Bought an 8.8 with 3.73's, sold the 7.5 tlock and returned the 7.5 3.73 gears. Everyone says it's all in the installation. My installer was a performance shop and had done hundreds of gear swaps. I wished I had done the 8.8 from the start. oh well.
Good luck.

NEWTAKE-OFF ftw.
the prices go up as the ratios go down
3.31s are the cheapest and 4.10s are the most.
Gears will run you bout $150 and the T-Loc about $230.
Thats $380 just in parts plus the install kit.
Then the $500 in labor which could be crappy
and the whining begins.
8.8s from newtake-off dont whine....
Cheaper in the long run....

I thought there were two camps on this:
1. Only way to go is the 8.8 for a gear change.
2. Its okay with 7.5, just don't get motive brand gears, they will whine.
I am waiting for some cash to perform option 2, going with ford 3.73 gears as I thought they did not suffer from the 'whine' people are having with motive gears.
Have I missed something?

I to was going to have gears & T-lok installed on my 7.5 rear BUT did some price checking and found out that the 8.8 takeoff was the same price and I COULD DO THE INSTALLION MYSELF! Install was fairly easy compared to doing gears, just remove & replace. NO WHINE!!!--NO PROBLEMS!!! And the weight difference(maybe 45 lbs)is no big deal as it sits over the rear wheels anyway. I'm very happy with the 8.8 w/3.55s.
