2008 4.0 to 4.6 conversion automatic
#12
Ah, another swapper! There's a little more to it than just the engine/ecu.
I suggest you look at mustangcollective.com, as there's a lot of us on there who've done (or are in the process of ) v8 swaps.
As far as the auto tranny, if the bellhousings are the same, it'll bolt up (i'll found out in a couple of weeks). I'd use a different converter vs the stock v6 one (I have a tci 3000 stall for sale locally; sorry, shameless plug).
Otherwise just pick up a gt tranny.
You should use a 8.8 rear end and appropriate driveshaft. If you still have the stock v6 one, you can upgrade to a shaftmasters, and it'll fit both v6 and gt.
You'll need different a/c lines to the compressor (I know of a hookup in s.a. who has some).
And of course, a ecu and engine wiring harness, best if it matches your year car (07-09).
Where in tx are you? I'd be happy to offer whatever advice I can while I'm doing my swap.

Now get rid of the 4.0 and put a 5.4 with 6 speed in it and that will be something a little more impressive.
Best idea yet is keep the 4.0 and put it into the 11s ....now that is something

its not to hard to find a cheap 4.6 engine lying around but to me it doesnt really have any wow factor.

Thanks Matt!
I must say, having a blower on a V6 that smokes a lot of V8's does get a lot of ooohs and ahhhhs. It IS different. But, it can't come close to a blown v8 of course.
If you're just only looking to do a swap and run mostly stock engine with soem bolt ons, and you get the parts for a reasonable price, yes, you can do it economically. If you care about resale value of the car, then sell the V6 and get a GT.
It does some ***** and gumption to go through with a v8 swap. It's not for the faint of heart, lol!
