If you are going to drive your car mainly on the street, here's where I'd put my $1000: CAI/tune from a reputable shop ($500-600 from VMP (cheapest), Brenspeed, or AM/Bama), a single GT take-off muffler ($50-100, for exhaust note and just a bit of hp bump), upgrading to GT takeoff swaybars for better handling ($200 if you install it yourself, $400 if you get help.)

NTO has a great deal on the GT mufflers: http://www.kmpaccessories.com/20mugt5spmae.html
Looks like there's some fitment issues between 2010 and 05-09 Stangs.

$529 for CAI/Tune from AM/Bama with free tunes for life from bama
$457 for TLock and 4.10 gear and installation pkg from Stangmods
$2-400 for install of gears and locking diff.
best mods you can do short of Forced Induction!!

You can find cheaper deals on ebay/craigslist. Make sure you find a pair from a manual GT since they are louder

You could look at these for reference:

The kits are somewhat pricey, but you could do what I did and go to a exhaust shop and have them custom fab an H or X Pipe. Most times it's a cheaper alternative to buying a kit
You could also check this out, some good info

Thanks alec231236 for all your help. The members of this forum are great and there is a lot of knowledge here.
Just another question. If I just replace my stock muffler with a GT takeoff, what will I get, just better sound?
