Default Comp Cams for 4.0L

I would like to do cams but the only ones I know of are Supersix Motorsport and are over $1k. On another forum a member said he put Ranger/explorer cams in.

I am awaiting his response on install, supporting mods, and post install issues. I know it's the same 4.0L cologne engine but do any of you have experience with using Ranger/mountaineer/explorer cams in your Mustang?

They are far cheaper and I don't plan on going FI, I just want more power in my NA.

Thanks for any advice.

He's running the CompCam 270HR's for $300. He has an intake, full exhaust, shorty headers, 40# injectors, and a tune. He said he dynos 277RWHP and 286RWTQ from his automatic. Pulled that from a thread, he hasn't replied to my questions yet.

I would love for my 4.0L to put that down with out spending a ton. I wonder if he needed to go to the 40# injectors to feed the engine or if our stock ones can do it.

ya, unfortunatley supersixmotorsportsowns the only made for mustang cams. they give pretty good performance gains for the price though.

Still inquiring about the injectors and cost of cam install. If im not mistaken, our engines should be pulled because of the location of the passenger (?) side cam?

I've found these two options so far

CompCams 270HR

CompCams 265HR

Haven't found heads from them yet though, I know SSMS makes them.

He said he did add the 40# injectors to feed the engine.

I have also requested this info:

What is your redline and what happens with your cams over 5200rpms? That is the redline for the Ranger? Any weird sounds or changes in the engine (not sure how the higher rpm affects the cams). Do you know how long it took to install? Did they have to pull the engine? And finally do you have a dyno sheet?
I will post when I hear back, he is located in FL and I can try to get the shop info if you FL'ers want it

I also emailed Comp Cams with the stock configuration of our engines with all the interior specs listed and asked if they have Mustang 4.0 cams or plan to and what they think the best cams for our application are.

Yeah that would be interesting on what you find out, I knew of super six motorsports, but never really heard of anything else that made cams for the 4.0L.
