Alternator problems at 38k miles.

Correct in regards to the alternator NOT being used to bring a battery back to full charge from a deep discharge state. Although a trickle charger will eventually recharge a battery, a good 10-15 amp (or higher if you can afford it) AUTOMATIC battery charger is the best way to go. Quite often, wet cell batteries respond better to a higher initial charge rate (forced-feeding) than via a trickle charge.

your lucky it was just youre battery. I just had to replace the alternator and battery in my 07 which cost me 500, plus the 80 towing fee because the car was completely dead and couldnt even be jumped. Its just mod money going down the drain.

Depending on your insurance they might be able to reimburse that. Mine did.
