Default FREEZING

Hi All,

I am hoping someone can help me. I recently lost all ventilation as well as no rear defroster or a/c, this is very bad since its -12c. I bought a new relay to replace the one listed as #32 in the engine compartment fusebox (climate control blower ) but it made no difference. I could not believe that they charge 22.00 for a 3$ relay. Does anyone have any suggestions for me cuz its been really cold driving around with no heating.

Thanks

Have you checked for a pass side water leak and smart junction box corrosion?
Does the blower motor run when turned on?
Checked fuses? F52 in the BEC is the rear defogger F2 is the blower motor.

Here's the link to the shop manual. Dig in to find the wiring diagrams and system troubleshooting info. http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=1

Good luck. Let us know what you find.

FYI, My wife experienced the same issue with her VW passat. She took it to the shop and they had to replace the A/C - Heater control unit.

Thanks for the feedback!

Graypony, sorry but I don't understand what you mean by BEC, most of my fuses are listed with numbers next to them so i'm not too sure where F2 and F52 are. And I checked and there is not corrosion or leakage that i can see.

That service link is great nuke.

Kevin i really hope i dont have to do that as it sounds alot more expensive than a relay or a fuse.

The BEC (Bussed Electrical Connector) is in the engine compartment and the Smart Junction Box (SJB) is behind the pass kick panel. Did you remove the kick panel and check the box for corrosion? Your problem sounds like a corrosion/moisture issue because the only common item to the ac and rear defogger is the smart junction box.

The OP probably isn't cognizant of the TSB for the water leak.

Apparently not...yet. Maybe he is trying to do some initial first step trouble shooting before resorting to making a claim on a TSB issue, kind like putting "the ducks in a row" and ruling out other things before going to the TSB.

I've checked both fuses F2 and F52 and they seem ok. I hope its not the unit that has the vent controls . Anything else i should check?

thanks
