Wow, Is this normal?
When I was talking to the sales guy when I was looking at the Mustang for my wife I asked him what was the top end of the 4.0 V-6. He advised me it was electronically governed at 98 Miles per hour but after the warranty wore off It could be reprogrammed to run out as high as 130. Last night I decided it was time to take this pony and see how quickly it got up there, the next thing I knew I was topped out at 118, and it did so quite impressively for a 6 cylinder car.
So my question is: Is this the normal top end or has this car been "Upgraded" or reprogrammed or whatever? I'm betting it's normal but I thought I would ask those of you that are in the know....

I don't recall the factory speed limit on the 4.0 but I don't believe you'll hit it stock. I've heard of 4.0's pushing over 120 MPH. Heck, my 4.0L SUV can hit 110 without breaking a sweat with power to spare.
Your salesman is an idiot. Plus, very few people wait for warranty to expire before retuning in order to take advantage of not just the added 15-20 RWHP but also to eliminate throttle lag and improve the auto's shifts. About 70% of the forum are running non-stock tunes.

And in case you're wondering (and if not, allow me to brag for the GT guyz), the GT can hit upper 140's stock and push into the low 150's with just a CAI & custom tune.
I got 110ish I think (been a long time). Just make sure you're on a REALLY nice road lol and have speed rated tires for going that fast.
Im sure you know that, but doesn't hurt to reiterate... Enjoy the new stang!! =D

Thanks for the welcome, I bought a 2010 with the premium package. My very first Mustang, which I bought in 1978, was a 1964 1/2 Mustang Fastback, wish I still had that car today. But back then it was just an old car, sold it for $700.....
Thanks, and yes you are dead on about the road and tires, i bought the convertible for the wife and I to go cruisin in so I dont plan on doing a lot of "speed" in this one....
Hey NUKE, I love the Mustang, and they are all powerfull cars, the GT's are wicked quick, notg to mention the Cobra's and the Shelby's... NICE. But if I am going for speed, I am going to wait for the Nashville Autocross at the Super Speedway and take my 1990 Corvette which is much faster than I will ever go.... But the slogan for that car in 1990 was "Life begins at 160" and that was before the CAI, Flow master Exhaust, Shift kit, Electronic ignition upgrade, and larger throttle body.... while the vette is Americas Sports car the Mustang Convertible is the true American Muscle Car.... I am blessed to have the best of both worlds...
