You are correct the rear end has nothing to do with the driveshaft coming apart issue. The upgrade to the rear end is needed as you increase the power to the rear wheels and use sticky drag tires; the 7.5 can't take that for long. I think that the 2011 comes with the 8.8 already for both the V6 and V8.

The driveshaft is fixed by replacing it with something like the Shaftmasters; plus you get the added benefit of using the power more efficiently because the engine doesn't have to spin up the heavy driveshaft to get the power to wheels.
