the best way to make a v6 sound like a v8 is to go big. i know your not trying to spend a ton of money on exhaust, but thats a great place to start. itll give you great sound and no problems down the end. some good mufflers are the FRPP stingers (which are also the same as the borla stingers) and the top of the line, still a little over the top FRPP FR500S exhaust. AM has a great deal on them with their discount code. this is the route i went with my exhaust.

first i started with the FRPP dual exhaust kit, but ordered it with GTB (bullitt mufflers) instead of the GTA mufflers. they were very deep, but a little too muffled for me, especially when i gave it throttle. i just recently upgraded to the FR500S and they are 500% better than the GTB. they are louder yes, deeper yes, and resonates no. not even a little bit. ford made these mufflers and the result is that they are perfect for the mustang. in fact they are the same mufflers that are avalible for the 2010 and up mustang v6.

the install took all of 30 min, no welding ofcourse and no cutting either, just clamp on like normal mufflers. and when you want loud, at wot i passed my freind and he said that everything in the center console was rattling and not to do it again bc he thought it was goin to blow his ear drums lol. wimp. he heard me about 1/2 mile behind him open it up and said it sounded like a racecar was pulling up next to him! on another occasion he heard me go to wot from a mile away when he was standing outside his house. anyway at idle it burbles, under normal driving conditions it sounds really really deep and at wot its insanely loud, but not raspy, just smooth muscle car sound. THESE MUFFLERS ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyway thats just my 2 cents!

Personally I have never heard a v6 Pony that sounded ricy but alot of the aftermarket exhaust has more of a tractor (think John Deere) sound. Of course this is my personal hearing. Good luck

AmericanICON, how long of a glasspack, and what total diameter did you install? I'm looking at some of the Thrush glasspacks because I think they sound pretty good.

Also, were you running the X or H pipe on your car?

Nickboxer--the glasspacks I used were 22" long. Diameter about 5".
I had an H pipe. The x pipe flows better, but sounds raspier on the V6.

Do you have a video or sound clip I can listen to by chance?

I was looking at one 27" total length, 22" shell length, and 3.5" diameter. I was concerned the 4 inch wouldn't fit as well up under the car, but it sounds like you went even bigger, so I guess the 4 would work.

Yes, here's a video of my old V6:

The cheap, little digital camera I used doesn't do the sound any justice.

That sounds good. I thought with 18" it might be a little poppy sounding but it sounds pretty smooth. I bet with Thrush glasspacks I'll get a little more pop, which is why I wanted to go with a longer tube lol.

I've heard nothing but good things about the magnaflow glasspacks, but the price is a bit higher.
