2005 redfire's link to the hood coming off is the ONLY example I've seen of a hood flying up. And the OP in the link even admitted that his latch wasn't right for some time so IMO, the failure was his.
The S197 OE hoods tend to have some shake due to the aerodynamics which can usually be adjusted pretty easily. Unless I'm driving into a strong headwind, I usually don't see it until about 100-120 MPH. And I've since adjusted it out.
Hood pins are a GREAT visual mod IMO. They give the car "attitude". I don't care for the "visual only" pins but some look good. I figure if I'm going to do it, I'll install the real deal. I learned my lesson with cheap side scoops.

I had my hood pop up once - never had a problem with it latching before or since. But this was on the track, almost to the stripe so about 100 mph when it popped up and caught on the safety catch. Jumped on the brakes really quick and aborted that pass!
Afterwards I thought I should have let it pop all the way, could justify a new hood then LOL

recently the hood on my 95 gt flew up and ripped out my hinges so i was just gonna put 4 hood pins in it and take the old hinges out, but i cant figure a place to drill for the back ones. will the hood work with just the front hood pins, or do i have to have the back ones to keep it from flying up

Hood flying off are a rare occurrence, thanks for that!
I'm willing to bet that 90% of it is cause by faulty latch mechanisms, due to wear and tear or poor customizing or both or too strong of a spring...
You think you latched that hood and in reality, you didn't.
I replace the factory spring with a softer one on my car.
We have aluminum hood, there's no need to slam 'em down that hard!
Hood pins are used in racing where there isn't any latch to fail during pit stops etc..
Definitely not a must have for the streets.
Anyway, the hood shake we have is due to the design of our car (hence Nuke comment)...
The grille is recessed so the air flow wants to grab that front edge and force it up.
Add to this that the hood is light, you'll end up with a shake even after all adjustments are made.
It's not a problem though, if your latch is in good shape, your hood ain't going nowhere.
