Ok just had my 7.5 rear replaced with a 8.8 with 3.73 gears. My shop said I need to do something about the drive shaft, he said with the extra strain on it from the LSD and my mods the caps were starting to come apart, he restaked them and did a few other things to help keep it alive. But he said I really do need to do something permanent. Like upgrading the driveshaft. So where to get this better driveshaft? and what to look for? I shop a lot on AM, and they have a one piece aluminum shaft for 769.00, is this what I need? Is there something better or better priced? Just need a little help from the forum guys that have went through this. Thanks for any help

 

Most of them are around that price. I went with a dynatech on the advice of a local speed shop here.

 

It's not really the price I just want to know it's a stronger and better shaft than stock

 

I had the aluminum 4" driveshaft from Shaftmasters on my 2006. Great product and great people to deal with. $458 for their product.

Although I have never heard of upgrading to the 8.8" rear end and tlok causing problems. It doesn't put any extra strain on the rear end at all. I can't see that it is causing any issues like you describe, it doesn't make sense to me.

 

Well he said the u joint caps were coming unstaked and coming apart. Maybe the driveshaft was just getting old and worn out. I want to get something better than stock instead of replacing with inferior parts.

 

Shaftmasters are out of stock, do you know anything about the one AM sells?

 

I think what my shop guy was getting at was with the upgrades I have done the old driveshaft was in not the greatest shape

 

2005 and some 2006 driveshaft have staked joints that can come apart.

The later ones have typical circlips. You might try getting a 2007+ stock driveshaft.

Too bad you're not local. I have my 07 driveshaft just sitting in my garage.
