DIY Chip tuning possible? or Best bang for buck mod
Hello from B.C. Canada ! This is my first post on here.
I recently bought a 2005 V6 convertible at 260,000 km (around 200k miles) at a great deal. High mileage but very well cared for. It came with clean car fax and full service history and even the original window sticker from back when it was new! It still runs great on 5W-30, RPM needle points straight as an arrow at idle, no rough idling, no hesitation, doesn't burn a single drop of oil, nothing.
I also got a great deal on brand new OEM spec struts & shocks (all 4 corners for $200 CAD) and replaced those. I also replaced the front sway bar links while the struts were out. I also put a new head unit in, and wired it to the factory sub and speakers.
I love working on the thing and I'm looking for the next project. What's the best bang for buck mod I can get? I lurked around a bit and most people say get a tune but all the tuners go for $500+ and I don't want to spend that much on this car because I want to upgrade to a V8 stick shift as soon as I could find a good one.
Is DIY tuning possible? I'm skilled in electronics so if there's any custom circuitry to be put together I can handle it. I'm also a software engineer so I got that part sorted as well.
So, tune or something else?
Thanks for the answers in advance...

ps. I should also mention that I don't care much about gaining 10 HP top end power but mid range torque that would make it zippier around town & on the highways would be much more interesting. Also its an A/T not a standard.
