My catalytic converters on my mustang got blocked causing me to get stranded on the highway. Never had check engine light or anything else come on until the day it left me stranded. I had the car towed my friends place to work on my vehicle to see what was wrong. He told me the catalytic converters got blocked. So he gutted out the converters and put them back on because at the time I did not have the money to replace them. when he gutted the converters I had him put on a new muffler and 2 new air filters. That happen in Nov. I only drove my car to my house. after that .The car sat in my driveway all winter. I now have the money to replace converters. How long can I drive the car with gutted out converters before it might cause damage to other parts in the car ? Also what other parts could have failed that caused the converters to become blocked ? Someone told me only driving short trips could cause it or a bad oxygen sensor. My vehicle is a 2005 Mustang V6 base with 50,000 miles but only driven on short trips around the county. Hope someone can help me answer my questions.
